Nel 1994, lo scultore Sandro Sabatino ricevette l’incarico dall’Unione Nazionale Mutilati per Servizio di realizzare un monumento in onore dei Caduti per Servizio.
Nacque così l’opera: "Viaggio verso la Luce – Il Volo"
Una scultura carica di significato, capace di raccontare il sacrificio, l’umanità e l’ascensione verso la luce.

In 1994, sculptor Sandro Sabatino was commissioned by the National Union of War Disabled to create a monument in honor of the Fallen for Service.
Thus, the work was born: "Journey to the Light – The Flight"
A sculpture full of meaning, able to tell the story of sacrifice, humanity, and ascension towards the light.

Nel 1999, a causa di problemi amministrativi, il progetto si bloccò.
Nello stesso anno, Sandro ci lasciò improvvisamente a soli 45 anni, stroncato da un malore cardiaco. La scultura in argilla cominciò a deteriorarsi. Ma grazie all’intervento dello scultore Gianfranco Macaluso, fu possibile realizzare un calco in gesso, salvando l’opera dal tempo.

In 1999, due to administrative issues, the project came to a halt.
In the same year, Sandro left us suddenly at the age of 45, struck by a heart attack. The clay sculpture began to deteriorate. But thanks to the intervention of sculptor Gianfranco Macaluso, a plaster cast was made, saving the work from the ravages of time.

Nel 2023, la sorella di Sandro contattò l’Unione. La scultura esisteva ancora. La risposta fu emozionata e chiara:
"Sì, vogliamo completare ciò che era stato iniziato."

In 2023, Sandro’s sister contacted the Union. The sculpture still existed. The response was emotional and clear:
"Yes, we want to complete what was started."

Così nasce l’Associazione Ricreativa e Culturale "Sandro Sabatino ETS", con un obiettivo preciso:
✅ Fondere in bronzo la scultura ;
✅ Realizzare il monumento a Palermo ;
✅ Diffondere l’arte e il messaggio di Sandro attraverso un libro, mostre e incontri culturali.

Thus, the Recreational and Cultural Association "Sandro Sabatino ETS" was born, with a clear goal:
✅ To cast the sculpture in bronze ;
✅ To create the monument in Palermo ;
✅ To spread Sandro’s art and message through a book, exhibitions, and cultural meetings.
